Willem the Silent 2018

Vaucluse IGP

This great value, southern Rhône red is packed with herby black fruit and spice character. If it hailed from any of its neighbouring regions, it would cost a pretty penny. But from the often overlooked Vaucluse, it has a far more pleasing price tag.

Welcome to the Vaucluse, a southern Rhône wine region, just on the edge of Provence. Its extensive vineyards nurture an array of native grapes like Grenache, Syrah, Marselan and Carignan, that make ripe, warming, fruit laden reds. The nearest neighbours are famous wine regions Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf du Pape. It’s lucky enough, too, to share the same climate and have similar soils. In the case of Willem the Silent and Châteauneuf, it shares an award winning winemaker as well. Thierry Ferlay has won scores of Gold medals for many of his wines – from vins de pays to Châteauneuf. Enjoy the herb and liquorice scented fruit of his latest offering with sausage and mash or shepherd's pie of the meat or veggie sort.
