Germany has always produced some of the world’s finest Rieslings. In the last decade or so, German winemakers have perfected a dry style of wines too, producing wines with a gloriously zingy and appetising balance of brilliance lemon and apple fruit undercut by intense mineral poise. They are equally brilliant as an apéritif or as a foil to food. This classic dry Riesling from historic Rheinhessen was made by Manuel Brixius at the award winning Niersteiner Weingenossenschaft, founded in 1930. Yields were small for the 2017 vintage, due to April frosts, but the quality is excellent – elegant, crisp and powerfully aromatic Rieslings – exactly what you have here. Breathe in the vibrant apple and lime fruit and real mineral finesse, and sip.
