When you taste this smooth, ripe, gently oaked Gran Reserva, you won’t be surprised to learn the cellar is highly rated by top critics like Parker and Suckling. This is a top class, oak aged Carmenère from Viña Tarapacá in the Maipo Valley – one of the most beautiful wineries in the world. Its founder Don Francisco de Rojas returned from a trip to France in 1874 laden with vine cuttings from Bordeaux and Burgundy. He planted them in the land around his classic colonial style house. In 1992 new owners invested in the vineyards and winery, adding a new temperature controlled cellar, with 4,000 barrels for maturing wines. The upshot is even more impressive wines like this top red using Chile's signature Carmenère grape. Enjoy with roast lamb.
