A terrific find from a leading winery in Somontano in NE Spain that regularly wins a slew of top awards. Only established in 1986, they make great wines from native and international stars. Revel in this wine’s intense, spicy red and black fruit.
"Tremendous wine from a region we should be paying a lot more attention to! Somontano has it all"
Online Review For the 2014 vintage
Somontano lies in the Pyrenean foothills in the northeast of Spain. It was established as a DO as recently as 1985 but already Viñas del Vero is one of the most awarded in Spain’s famed Guía Peñín Wine Guide. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 10 of their wines were awarded over 90 points. This bodega was set up by a pioneering team in 1986, with 550 hectares of native grapes as well as international stars like Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot. The area offers ideal conditions for vines. Even the Romans knew that and made wine there. Today the winery has 700 hectares of vines and is one of the country’s most impressive cellars, with rows of quality oak casks for ageing. Made from Cabernet, Syrah and Tempranillo, this is a rich oaked red, best with lamb.
