This silky, fruit laden Merlot is romantically named after a famous boulevard in a bohemian part of Bucharest, often referred to as Little Paris. It’s made from hand-picked grapes grown in the vineyards of Muntenia, north of the Danube in Transylvania. Once part of Hungary and the Ottoman empire, Transylvania became part of Romania in 1918. The province has centuries of winemaking heritage, and today you can find wineries there as advanced as any in Europe, thanks to the influx of international investment and expertise. Paris Street doesn’t pretend to rival the great Merlots of Pomerol or Napa – it is proudly Romanian and a super little wine in its own right. Smooth and full of juicy red fruits, it’s great solo or with grilled lamb.
