This is a superb white Burgundy from Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier, friends who grew up together in a village in beautiful Mâconnais. They joined forces to create their own estate in 1986 on the border of the Mâcon Villages and Saint Véran appellations, not far from their old stomping ground. The grapes for this white come from half century old vines on some of the finest soils with south facing slopes, and were late harvested for extra richness. It’s from 2016, a year described by Jancis Robinson MW as “a seriously delicious vintage”, although it was far from easy. Meticulous vinification and ageing in part-new oak have resulted in a wine with superb balance and complexity. Serve cool with rich seafood or sauced white meats.
