Maury is a tiny appellation in Roussillon, long prized for its sweet, fortified Vin Doux Naturel. If you’re already a fan of Jean-Charles Duran’s Un Vent de Folie, you’ll know that Maury’s very poor soils and windswept slopes produce exciting reds too. So exciting that in 2011 a new appellation was created, Maury Sec AOP, for Maury’s best reds. Jean-Charles is lucky enough to have a few rows of 100 year old vines within Maury Sec and with the grapes he wanted to make a very special barrel aged wine. He talked to a good friend, our winemaker Mark Hoddy, and the result is the fabulous 100+. It’s an intensely concentrated Grenache and old vine Carignan, carefully barrel aged in fine French oak for up to two years, and will age magnificently.
