We’ve championed Jean-Charles Duran’s superb Un Vent de Folie for a decade. This is Jean-Charles’ first-release Grand Cru version. It uses Grenache and Carignan from his 100 year old vineyard, all barrel aged. Powerful yet elegant, balanced and long.

Maury is a tiny appellation in Roussillon, long prized for its sweet, fortified Vin Doux Naturel. If you’re already a fan of Jean-Charles Duran’s Un Vent de Folie, you’ll know that Maury’s very poor soils and windswept slopes produce exciting reds too. So exciting that in 2011 a new appellation was created, Maury Sec AOP, for Maury’s best reds. Jean-Charles is lucky enough to have a few rows of 100 year old vines within Maury Sec and with the grapes he wanted to make a very special barrel aged wine. He talked to a good friend, our winemaker Mark Hoddy, and the result is the fabulous 100+. It’s an intensely concentrated Grenache and old vine Carignan, carefully barrel aged in fine French oak for up to two years, and will age magnificently.

"This extraordinary zone has the potential to be one of the rare ‘Grands Crus’ of the South of France" Andrew Jefford, Decanter
