Here’s the latest new ale from Will Laithwaite’s award winning Abingdon brewery. It’s a well-structured Red Rye that’s a half-way house between bitter and a lighter ale. Refreshingly sparkling, it’s presented in 30cl cans, perfect for the fridge.
Tasting notes
Medium bodied and citrusy with a malty finish
Aroma
Pleasing aromas of tropical hops and toasted toffee
If you find new wave craft IPA too overpowering, but you want something that’s more refreshing than a bitter, this is the beer for you. It hails from the Loose Cannon Brewery in Abingdon, Oxfordshire – a town with a long brewing history. But when the Morland Brewery (of Speckled Hen fame) closed its doors, it seemed that long tradition was drawing to a close. However, at roughly the same time, the Loose Cannon team was on the lookout for premises and in July of 2010, they opened for business. They’ve gone from strength to strength since then, supplying casks to pubs throughout the Thames Valley, and sending craft beers like this one even farther. The stronger flavours make this a great food beer – try with gourmet burgers and chunky chips.
