Chat with Vinny
Here’s one for the whisky collectors. They only made 1,091 bottles of this magnificent Islay malt that beautifully balances the typical Islay coastal salinity with sweet layers of caramel. Non chill filtered and bottled at 49.5%, it’s powerful stuff.
Tasting notes
Nutmeg, toffee pudding and cider apple with a long, spicy finish
Aroma
Initially sweet, with pears, apple and a brackish tang
Founded in 1883, the Bunnahabhain distillery lies at the mouth of the Margadale Spring on the shores of the Sound of Islay. It’s the only distillery on the island to use pure spring water that hasn’t been affected by the island’s peaty soils. That’s why Bunnahabhain’s whiskies are usually lighter in colour than your typical Islay malt. And this is not all that makes Batch 5 such a rarity. It’s a special limited release from That Boutique-y Whisky Company – an independent bottler that snaps up the finest casks from distillers all over Scotland, choosing to create special blends, or single malt releases bearing the company’s distinctive graphic novel style labels. The salted caramel sweetness unleashes further complexity with a drop of water.
