South Africa produces very attractive wines that sit midway in style between the Old World and the New. No hard edges, but lots of sunkissed fruit, yet still elegant with that verve of refreshment. And that's even true of Cabernet Sauvignon. Here, the Bordeaux grape brings lots of bright blackcurrant, cherry and berry flavours with just a hint of spice and a bite of freshness. It's made by a modern cellar in the Cape, and a team that really know how to capture all the fruit with a minimum of hard tannins. Just enough to lend a little bit of structure. This is a great wine to serve as a glass on its own, you can even chill slightly in summer. It'll also partner a rare beef salad, tuna carpaccio or a tomato, aubergine and mozzarella bake.
