Reed Renaudin is head winemaker at X Winery, from whom we’ve been buying for a few years. He’s proved that quality and value can go hand in hand in California. Indeed, critic Robert Parker wrote “shrewd customers should be buying [Reed’s wines] by the case load”. Looking for new territory to explore, Reed ventured to Washington State, choosing its premier wine region, Columbia Valley. Long sunny days with chilly nights are the perfect mix for crisp, aromatic Riesling. 2015 was a particularly ripe vintage too, so there’s plenty of concentration too. Delight in the juicy apricot, citrus and delicate lemongrass flavours and its crisp bite of freshness. Stone Peak makes a splendid apéritif, or pair with spicy stir-fry or creamy chicken.
