Lucky Number 7 is as unusual as the name suggests, not least because it was never meant to be! During the harvest of an outstanding Shiraz vineyard in the heart of Stellenbosch’s ‘Golden Triangle’, rain began to fall and two rows were left unpicked. These grapes, when harvested weeks later, were incredibly ripe and some had developed ‘noble rot’, further concentrating flavours and sweetness. They were pressed and fermented to extract maximum colour and aged in seven barrels for seven years. No one expected the explosion of Christmas cake and marzipan aromas when the wine was tasted. Seven is lucky indeed! Almost port-like in character with brooding cherry, pepper and violet flavours, this wine is delicious with dark, chocolatey desserts.
