Villa Quinziana 2017

Squinzano DOC

Puglia is a treasure trove of rich tasting reds that offer “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson). Our source for this top of the range wine from the superb Squinzano cru is the three time ‘Winery of the Year’ Cantine Due Palme.

Angelo Maci of the famed Cantine Due Palme winery is a great ambassador for Italian wine, especially from Puglia. His efforts have been recognised at home in the form of a prestigious Premio Barocco award, given to those who promote Italian culture overseas – previous winners include Pavarotti, Sophia Loren and Pope Benedict XVI! Angelo has also won Winemaker of the Year three times, and a Lifetime Achievement award. Villa Quinziana is a fine, dense, spicy red, made purely from top grape Negroamaro, sourced by Angelo from low yielding, old bush vines that lend even greater richness and intensity. Yet this wine is elegant too and works brilliantly with a range of classic Italian dishes – from rustic pasta to spicy pork or bean casserole.
