Solano Blanco 2018

Vino Blanco

For a simple, deliciously appetising fresh white, choose Solano. It's from a bodega in northwest Spain, renowned for its crisp Albariño whites. This wine is, however, Airén, cool fermented and early bottled to capture maximum citrusy, stony fruit.

For decades now, Spain has been best known for its silky Tempranillo reds, often tinged with oak's toasty spice. Come the 21st century, the country is showing its immense skill with dazzling fresh whites. Many come from Galicia in the northwest. Whites from Albariño, Godello, Treixadura and the like. The climate there is cool and yes, there's quite a bit of rain, but it's perfect for fresh, crisp whites, often with a little weight and complexity. This is a bright, citrusy white using Spain's Airén grape. It's from family owned Bodegas Gallegas, founded a half century ago, but today kitted out with the very latest in modern equipment. Very citrusy with hints of pear and apple, this is refreshing solo or with the Galician speciality, seafood.

"Very citrusy fresh. A crisp, any time sort of white" Beth Willard
