Navarra is an exciting wine region of Spain, one of the first to break rank and use imposter grapes, like Cabernet, in its wines. Its winemakers haven’t been afraid to experiment either. This Vendimia Seleccionada is a lavish, oak-matured red from a 65 year old winery that’s highly regarded throughout the world. It lies in Puente La Reina, a village situated at a crossroads where two trails on the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage converge. Don Félix Huarte established the estate in 1953, but it was major investment in 2001, in both vineyards and cellar, that saw the most significant step up in quality. This is a top red, using old vine grapes, aged in French and US oak barrels. Luscious, long and complex – worth taking time over.
