This is a Rioja deal simply too good to miss. It hails from a truly iconic winery established over 100 years ago. The winemaker had earmarked the cuvée to be a luscious Crianza. Tasting it after the six months mandatory rest in barrel, he realised it was too good to take out of cask, so left it there another six months. This in theory makes it of Reserva level, but extra paperwork is a costly affair, so our Buyer Beth was offered it at a brilliant Crianza price, if we labelled it under our Selección Especial range. Suffice it to say, this is top of the range Rioja, loaded with berry fruit, moreishly silky and shot through with spicy oak nuances. As equally suited to a summer barbecue as to a winter hot pot or a slow roasted lamb shank.

"Really serious Rioja with deftly handled oak ageing. This can only be from a great estate!" Beth Willard
