If you care more about the wine in the bottle than the label on it, then this exceptional 2011 Gran Reserva is for you. Treated to 27 months ageing in oak and a further 6 years in bottle, this gloriously complex, mature, fruity Rioja is a real find.
Buyer Beth Willard has done it again. She’s tracked down another stunning Spaniard for the Selección Especial series. These fine wine bargains have just one catch: we’re forbidden to name the wineries. And in this case, it’s a bodega considered one of the 5 Best Rioja Houses in the last 25 years (Wine & Spirits Magazine, USA). They passed on the final cases of this Gran Reserva in a one-off secret deal. Crafted in the excellent 2011 vintage, it delivers juicy fruit flavour and a wonderful, fresh acidity. Treated to 27 months in American oak barrels before being bottled in 2014, this treat of a red has since been ageing beautifully and gaining complexity in the bottle. Perfect now, you could also leave this wine for another 10 years.
"Displays all the balance and concentration of fruit that mark the 2011 vintage"
