If you love the crisp cut and aromatics of Marlborough Sauvignon, yet want to branch out, try the delicious Seifried Gewürztraminer. The family estate lies in Nelson, next to Marlborough on the northern tip of South Island. It’s a region renowned for abundant sunshine. It's very beautiful too, with snow-capped mountains, lakes, forests and beaches. The founders, Hermann and Agnes Seifried, planted their first vines in 1973, and 1976 saw their first harvest. The second generation are now involved – Chris and Heidi as winemakers and Anna heading up the marketing – and their wines win many prizes. Here they use spicy, lychee-scented Gewürztraminer. This is a fresh style, off-dry with lots of juicy, exotic fruit – a real winner on its own.
