Rosé de Chevalier (magnum) 2019

Bordeaux AOC

Few Grand Cru Classé properties produce a white to rival their red, but that is true of the outstanding, much sought after Pessac Léognan Grand Cru Classé, Domaine de Chevalier. Since 2009 they have also made a serious pink – crisp, elegant, fine.

Domaine de Chevalier is a hallowed name in Bordeaux circles. The property dates back to 1783, was in the hands of the Ricard family for over a century, from 1865 to 1983. The Bernard spirits company, also family owned, then purchased it. They have made huge strides in quality, with their magnificent white - regarded as one of the finest in the world – then with their red, the flagship of the Pessac Léognan appellation. Quality took another big step up when they appointed the renowned Stéphane Derenoncourt as consultant. 80% of the 35 hectares is devoted to red grapes, the rest white and, until 2009, rosé was regarded merely as a sideline. That changed as CEO Olivier Bernard decided to take on Provence for finest rosé. A sublime crisp pink.

"Fresh-strawberry and stone character to this. Full-bodied. Peaches at the end. Fruity and delicious" James Suckling
