No wine region captures the charm of southern France quite like the Minervois. Gold medal Roc Saint Constant comes from the famous terroir of La Livinière. It’s an absolute charmer, brimful of bramble and spice, with soft tannins and wild herb notes.

This is a really delicious Minervois – thanks partly to great terroir and partly to the vintage. Rosemary George MW, a specialist in southern France, summed it up: “quantity is low and quality is high”. Frost this far south is almost unheard of (last striking vineyards in 1991), but it hit hard in 2017. Plus, there was an exceedingly dry summer. The result was yields down by 30% and very small, healthy grapes. Fewer grapes, smaller in size means concentrated juice and immensely flavoursome wines. On top of that, vines at Roc Saint Constant date back as far as 1934. Whole bunch fermentation has brought out the gorgeous fruity flavours of the grapes. This is lush, rich and charming – a splendid red for traditional cassoulet or lamb.
