Don Federico Paternina founded his winery in Rioja Alta in 1896, its cellars dug out three centuries earlier! Today, the bodega is still going strong, albeit under different ownership. This is an amazing long and complex wine, showing its maturity but also with surprising freshness that has kept it going strong. The wine has obviously been kept in optimal conditions and the original cork is still in place. Take care when removing it - it may crumble. If it does, don't worry, it's an old wine. You can always push into the wine, sieve the liquid into a jug and carefully pour back into the bottle (bits removed). Just take care not to air too much and enjoy immediately. It's a delicate wine. Enjoy with delicate plain meat or gentle cheese.
