Madiran is a top appellation of SW France and this is an exceptional find from a 5-star domaine in Viella. In 1750 this small village was ravaged by plague. The only solution was razing it to the ground, which the villagers did, having faith (La Fé) that this would be the solution. The slope from which the Tannat grapes are sourced is named La Fé. Tannat did fall very much out of fashion and many gave up on their vineyards, but young winemakers Claire and Marion Bortolussi had faith, adapted their methods and today produce this rich, robust, full-flavoured red. They work organically in the vineyard and use sustainable methods in the cellar. Deep, dense fruit, ample and velvety, with firm tannins – decant early and enjoy with hearty dishes.
