Superb, double Gold Malbec from Bordeaux born Hervé Fabre. In fact, it’s won a Trophy for the last two vintages. In 1986 Hervé discovered Argentina and he’s been making award winning wines there ever since. Decant early just as you would fine claret.

Argentine Malbec doesn’t get much finer than this. It’s from an estate that’s won six Decanter Trophies in three years, two of them for this Barrel Selection! From a Bordeaux wine family, Hervé Fabre came to South America to look for a vineyard and fell in love with old vine Malbec. He not only bought vineyards but also made his home in Argentina. Having begun in Mendoza, he now has an estate in Patagonia too. Hervé runs his properties like top Bordeaux châteaux, with an impressive barrel cellar at each. This Gold medal, 95 point red comes from 30 year old Malbec vines in Patagonia’s Río Negro. Made like a fine claret and aged for a year in French oak barriques, it’s powerful yet elegant with silky violet and spicy plum fruit. Decant early.
