Cabra Cega translates as Blind Goat and there is an interesting story about the name on the back label. But even more interesting is the wine itself. This irresistibly juicy red comes from Lisbon’s renowned Casa Santos Lima and Portugal’s ‘Best Young Winemaker 2016’, Diogo Sepúlveda. Having also worked in Pomerol and in the Barossa with heirloom Shiraz vines, his credentials for making this rich, old vine Portuguese red are second to none. Oz Clarke lists the estate as one of the “best producers” of Castelão and Touriga Franca (in his book Grapes and Wines). These grapes combine here with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to spectacular effect. No surprise it won six Golds in two vintages. Enjoy with grilled steaks, shish kebabs or roast lamb.
