What stands out about this terrific white is its lemon zipped, stony freshness and its very sensible price. It comes from Romania’s Transylvania, the winemaking heritage of which spans centuries. However, lack of investment for decades meant that Transylvanian wines didn’t live up to their potential. That is, until now, when with money ploughed in and the expertise of a new generation of enthusiastic young winemakers like Lorena Deaconu, great wines are the order of the day. The grapes for this fragrant white were hand-picked from premium high altitude vineyards to create a brilliant Pinot Grigio with lively citrusy character and floral charms. It makes a refreshing glassful on its own or with dishes such as baked trout or fennel risotto.
