France’s Alsace prides itself on its pure fruit wines. Nearly all are made from a single variety, bar this – the Cuvée Cinq. A blend of mostly Riesling with aromatic Muscat and spicy Gewurztraminer, the wine is lime fresh with exotic fruit and spice.

Alsace produces some amazing wines, mostly white with a little Pinot Noir, and a good number of these are Grand Cru. The region lies on the eastern edge of France, next to Germany and the Vosges mountains. It has very Germanic architecture, even names, and perhaps for this reason it’s often forgotten. But Alsace is one of the sunniest places in all France, resulting in very pure wines that age well. This is one from the Gisselbrecht family’s 350 year old cellar, run today by brothers Philippe and Claude. It is a blend of mostly lime-fresh Riesling with grapey Muscat and Gewurztraminer. Pure fruit, no oak, it offers notes of bright apple, pear, lychee and spice. Beautifully balanced and long, ideal on its own or with creamy fish or chicken.

"Exotic yet fresh, with round ripe fruit and mountain freshness. Pure and a real delight" Lucy Lettice
