This superb, fourth generation estate is led by Leonildo Pieropan, described as “simply one of Italy’s most gifted and knowledgeable winemakers” by Vinous. Within their 30 hectares of vines the family have three single vineyards, all Classico, the very best of which is La Rocca. Made purely from old vine Garganega from the beautiful, terraced La Rocca vineyard, this is a remarkable Soave. Wine Enthusiast described it as “one of Italy’s most iconic whites”. The grapes are left very late on the vine, often till late October, giving tremendous texture, richness and aromatics. Barrel ageing for a year with extended lees ageing means this wine can age extremely well, if you can resist. Serve gently chilled with creamy sauced fish or white meats.
