First created in 1962, Penfolds Bin 128 is a sublime, cool climate Shiraz. It’s no full-blooded Barossa Shiraz but a far more layered and structured expression of Australia’s favourite grape that reflects the unique climate of South Australia’s Coonawarra district. From the 1980 vintage onwards, Bin 128 has been aged in fine French oak to highlight the wine’s pepper, spice and floral characteristics. Now made under the watchful eye of gifted winemaker Peter Gago, it achieves greatness every vintage (especially in this excellent 2019), with the perfect balance of intense richness, ripe fruit freshness and depth. Trendsetting stuff from one of Australia’s oldest and most renowned wineries. Enjoy with a rack of lamb or stuffed field mushrooms.
