If you enjoy a spot of mellow Bourbon, here’s a Gold medal gem. FEW Bourbon is a complex young whiskey, crafted in small batches and aged in small casks to imbue luscious sweet spice character into this precious spirit. And it’s great for cocktails.

There may be a new craft distillery movement taking hold in the States – much like the UK’s artisan gin explosion – but the FEW distillery has been crafting fine spirits since the early 1990s. It’s located in Evanston, just north of Chicago and home of temperance campaigner and local heroine Frances E. Willard. Her efforts in the 19th century helped bring about the nationwide prohibition of alcohol during the 1920s. The prohibition era ended in 1933 but Evanston remained dry until June 1972 when the restaurant The Spot was granted a licence to sell the city’s first legal drink for over 100 years. Named as a nod to Frances E. Willard’s achievements, this distillery has a cult following among UK bartenders – it makes a mighty mean Manhattan!
