Not only is today’s Spanish wine scene “among the most vibrant, dynamic and creative in the world” (Tim Atkin MW), it surely offers some of the best value. Exhibit A is this refreshing Orange Grove Chardonnay. It comes from Valencia, on Spain's sunny east coast. This lovely corner of Spain, known as ‘Madrid by the sea’, may be more famous for its orange groves and paddy fields – it's home to paella – but it's also a region where grapes thrive. And they’re not all red. Chardonnay is very much back in fashion here (as it is nearly everywhere). When you taste this crisp white, you’ll appreciate why. Laden with apple, citrus, pear, melon and quince character, this creamy wine is as delightful on its own as it is with fresh seafood or sushi.
