Niño de las Uvas Rosado 2015

Bullas

Made from Spain’s characterful Monastrell grape, Niño de las Uvas is at the intense, powerful end of the rosé spectrum. All credit to winemaker Dr Luís Javier Pérez Prieto, who has crafted an ultra refreshing pomegranate and pink grapefruit gem.

This tiny production rosado (rosé) is from the highly coveted, remote appellation of Bullas in Murcia. Hidden in the clearing of a pine forest high in the mountains, this ancient region is a place the supermarket lorries simply can’t get to, but that didn’t stop us. The world’s most influential wine magazine awarded 93 points to a red from this “previously flying under the radar” enclave, and the 2014 of this rosado scored a fabulous 89 Parker points. Similarly intense, the 2015 is made from spicy Monastrell which has been cultivated here for around 3,000 years. Whole bunches were crushed and the free-run juice cool fermented for a fresh red fruit and toasty mineral character with a lovely balance. A perfect partner for salade niçoise.

"Powerful, distinctive, beautifully made, this is one of my favourite rosados from Spain" Beth Willard
