Positioned in the northeastern corner of South Island, Marlborough is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious wine regions – famous for grassy, herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs of arresting quality, and increasingly for a few more varieties besides. Company Bay is from a top cellar there, which had a parcel of surplus fruit in 2017. They were delighted to make us this special tropical and gooseberry crisp cuvée, with the proviso that we don’t blow the whistle on them and upset their usual customers. Picking in the cool of the night and fermenting at a low temperature have ensured maximum fruit and freshness are captured in the bottle. A vibrant, crisp, juicy white, it makes a super glass on its own, or with seafood, spicy Asian cuisine or salads.
