Nelson Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Nelson

New release Kiwi Sauvignon, not from Marlborough, but from next door Nelson. This suntrap region inspired Hermann Seifried to plant vines back in 1973. His son makes the wine today, this 2019 pulsing with zingy lime, nettle leaf and tropical fruit.

For a ripe, yet crisp, lively white, head for New Zealand. Marlborough is the best known region, but just round the coast is Nelson, sunshine capital of South Island. Austrian born Hermann Seifried and his wife Agnes planted vines there in 1973. Today they have 300 hectares close to Rabbit Island and, a little inland, at Brightwater. Their three children, brought up very much among the vines, now work at the family estate – Chris is head winemaker, his sister Heidi winemaker and dentist (!) and youngest, Anna, heads up sales and marketing. This fruit filled Sauvignon with zippy lime and mineral character is a celebration of the region's beautiful golden sand beaches and turquoise seas. Chill down and enjoy solo or with spicy Asian dishes.
