Melody by G. Metz Riesling 2019

Alsace AOC

Riesling is a grape we associate with Germany, but there is one region in France permitted to use it. That's Alsace and it makes wines with real purity of fruit, intensity and, above all, they're dry. From Gérard Metz, this is a lime zipped beauty.

Tucked away in the north eastern corner of France, Alsace is a wine region that often gets forgotten. Yet it produces some of France’s finest white wines. Lying just over the mountains, it's blessed with France's longest hours of sunshine, along with cool air, steep slopes and fine soils. The upshot is (mostly) white wines of real purity and intensity. One of our favourite estates is Domaine Gerard Metz in the charming village of Itterswiller on the eastern slope of the Vosges mountains. Winemaker Eric Casimir uses traditional techniques and sustainable agriculture to create great wines with a true Alsace character. Pure Riesling fermented dry (there are a few dessert Rieslings too), this is pure, poised and appetising. A top fish partner.

"Pure, dry Riesling – an Alsace classic. Lovely intensity of fruit. Terrific with food or not" Sarah Everden
