From the best vintage since 2010 comes one of Italy’s most divine reds. It’s from the fourth generation Massolino estate that owns some of Barolo’s top vineyards. Still a baby, this wine will unfurl to show dark cherry, violet and tar complexity.

Barolo is one of Italy’s greatest reds and 2015 is an outstanding vintage – Jancis Robinson MW calls it “exceptional”, while James Suckling called it "a vintage to buy with confidence". Franco Massolino’s Barolo comes from the excellent commune called Serralunga d’Alba, where chalky marl soil produces really excellent quality Nebbiolo that gives robust and long-lived Barolo. The wine was aged in a mix of large and smaller barrels to add hints of toasty oak to the wine’s generous fruit, but mostly to give it time to gain complexity. James Suckling described it as one of the "more approachable 2015s", awarding it 93 points. A fine food wine, decant well in advance and serve with roast red meats, game casserole or porcini mushroom risotto.
