This superb flagship red comes from a historic estate that dates back 1,200 years. It lies in Bolgheri, part of Maremma and home to other iconic Super Tuscans Sassicaia and Ornellaia. The Guado al Tasso estate was inherited by Piero Antinori’s mother in the 1930s, when there were still seven castles and 86 watchtowers on the extensive property, built as protection from Saracen invaders. It takes its name from a ford (guado) where badgers (tassi) can be spotted crossing the water. 300 hectares of vines include Vermentino, Sangiovese and Syrah plus the Bordeaux grapes Cabernet and Merlot that feature in this superb red. Ageing in new French oak barriques lends a serious layer of vanilla oak to the dense fruit of this top scoring red wine.

"A big, very rich red with powerful fruit and tannins, yet always polished and beautiful. Full-bodied" James Suckling
