Jancis Robinson MW wrote “Deiss is one of those admirable, uncompromising wine producers who really have gone their own way – and succeeded”. Most of their wines today are single vineyard blends, but this is pure, citrusy, rich and spicy Pinot Gris.

The Deiss family have been growers in Alsace for nearly 300 years and winemakers since 1947. They are one of the most forward thinking in Alsace. Mathieu Deiss is in charge of winemaking today, with his father, Jean Michel, in the vineyards. They are one of the earliest advocates of biodynamic methods in Alsace and consider all their wines to be an expression of the vineyard. Indeed, many of their wines are 'field blends' – a mix of whatever grapes grow in a single vineyard. Under the direction of Jean Michel and now Mathieu, the estate’s reputation has grown significantly and all vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically. This Pinot Gris offers ripe peach with rich spice, cut through by stony, lemony salinity. A very fine white.
