The Excelsior Estate was founded by the de Wet family in the 1850s. It has always produced wine, though for a time ostrich farming was its main concern. The prized feathers went out of fashion with the rise of the motor car, as tight fitting hats replaced voluptuous bonnets among the trendsetting young of the day. Today, Freddie de Wet and his son Peter run the estate assisted by talented winemaker Johan Stemmet. A keen marathon runner, Johan has won many medals for his dedication both on the track and in the cellar. For this pure Sauvignon he harvested the grapes at different levels of ripeness to produce a white with vibrant tropical fruit and a steely edge. Maison Rouxvale is a perfect partner for seafood or spicy vegetarian dishes.
