For fine quality Châteauneuf du Pape made with passion and sustainability very much in mind, choose Domaine Albin Jacumin. It was founded over a century ago by Aimé Jacumin and today has 19 hectares of premium vineyards dotted around Châteauneuf du Pape and a little in the Côtes du Rhône. It's run today by the third generation, Albin, who still prizes the traditional methods of his grandfather, whilst making the most of modern ideas. For this seductively ripe and velvety red, the main grape is Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, all grown on the region's classic big pebbled soil on 50 year old vines. Oak ageing is subtle, with only 20% going into barrel. Decant early or cellar. Albin suggests serving with daube en boeuf.
