For an easy going, delicious and elegant red with silky fruit and gentle spice, this young, lightly oaked Tempranillo hits the mark, bang on target. There is plenty of ripe, vibrant berry notes and just enough oaky richness to make it perfect with traditional local dishes. And it has heaps of personality, too. It’s from brothers David and Victor Manzanos, who learned to make fine Rioja at their father’s knee. It is a classic red, crafted from supple, well ripened fruit from the family’s highest vineyards and aged for six months in French oak, and the same in bottle. From a tricky vintage that certainly made the most of the brothers’ expertise, this tasty Tempranillo is spot on with simple tapas, paella, or vegetable and tofu kebabs.
