Inspired by the great whites of the northern Rhône, this is a deliciously exotic, well balanced white. The grapes come from a small domaine in the Languedoc though. Enjoy here a lovely floral and spice aroma, with peachy ripeness and lemon zip.
It's difficult to believe but around 30 years back, the Viognier grape was in major decline. It took the colourful California winemaker, Bonnie Doon, to champion it. Since then, plantings worldwide have risen sharply. It's well suited to the sunny Languedoc, especially in cooler, hillside regions, where our buyer found this small domaine. Warm sunny days promote excellent ripeness, while cool nights slow it down and accentuate freshness and aroma. You'll find that in Les Grands Cailloux, its name a reference to the large stones that cover the vineyards to keep the soil well drained and to aid ripening. Classic Viognier, it offers an exotic, floral and spice bouquet and creamy peach notes. A great match with spicy noodles or creamy chicken.
"Extremely delicious Viognier. Floral aromas. Pear drop, honeysuckle and peach flavours abound"
