Tony Laithwaite has been buying wine from Vieux Château Guibeau since the late 1960s. This special 2016 commemorates that 50 years of friendship. It didn't start so well, mind – Tony crashed into the vineyard on arrival! Crazy Englishman – he was forgiven! The proprietor then was Henri Bourlon, whose father was the first in the family to own the property. Henri’s father had come to Europe to study. Having fallen ill, he was told the country air of Puisseguin was the best cure. There he met his wife, whose family owned Château Guibot La Fourvieille. He stayed in Bordeaux and bought Vieux Château Guibeau next door. Its six hectares of old vines grow superb grapes and produce this well structured, silky claret. A fine partner to roast beef.
