If you love rich New World whites, you’ll also love this Sicilian Grillo. We were introduced to Barone Montalto by ‘Mr Papavero’ Scipione Giuliani, who came across the winery on his travels around Sicily. It’s a modern estate founded in 2000 to show the world Sicily was capable of producing so much more than just anonymous bulk wines. The Montalto team knew the island is blessed with ideal conditions – high altitude vineyards, cooling sea breezes and countless hours of sunshine – for making quality, world class wines like this. Winemaker Federica Lauterio takes hand harvested Grillo, a classic Sicilian variety used for the fortified wine Marsala, to craft this modern, sea-fresh white. A pleasure on its own and ideal with fish and seafood.
