This is a delicious, rich and silky Syrah from the Le Chai team. It’s a collaboration between our winemaker Mark Hoddy and Jean-Charles Duran in the heart of Roussillon’s Maury. Black schistous soils lend mineral finesse to the peppery black fruit.

It’s thanks to the encouragement of Le Chai’s Mark Hoddy that Jean-Charles Duran decided to leave the local co-op. Now he makes amazing reds in his own tiny shed winery on his equally small Maury estate deep in the Roussillon. With Mark by his side he learnt techniques quickly and the result has been some stormingly good wines. This is the sort of Syrah that dreams are made of (hence the name) – powerful, silky, black fruit and spice with smoky, liquorice notes and hints of the herbal garrigue. Quality is so good at Jean-Charles’ estate that Mark uses only grapes from here for this wine, ageing it at Le Chai in French oak barrels for 10 months. Decant first ideally and serve with pink roast lamb, a hearty casserole or at your next barbecue.
