La Porteña Chardonnay 2019

Mendoza

Though recognised more for its reds, Argentina’s whites boast an awe inspiring freshness thanks to the close proximity of the Andes. This, coupled with Burgundy’s Chardonnay grape, gives you an appetisingly fresh, ripely peachy, all enticing white.

La Porteña Chardonnay is wonderfully expressive and uniquely Argentine. It displays abundant fresh apple and pineapple flavours so typical of the New World, but has an elegance and finesse you associate with Burgundy. That’s thanks to the proximity of the towering Andes. This exciting white, crafted by Aussie winemaker Steve McEwen, pays tribute to the locomotive that helped establish Argentina’s wine industry. Inaugurated in 1857, the Buenos Aires Railway was Argentina’s first, and soon expanded to become one of South America’s largest railway networks. Built in Leeds, La Porteña was its first locomotive, and regularly carried wine from Mendoza to Buenos Aires. Enjoy this fruity white on its own or with lightly sauced chicken or fish pie.
