La Folie de Pierre Chardonnay 2018

Vin de France

La Folie is a crisp, appetising style of Chardonnay. It’s from the Loire Valley, more usually associated with Muscadet, Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc. This wine proves it’s also home to great Chardonnay. Bright lemon and melon fruit, pleasing roundness.

La Folie de Pierre is the creation of Pierre-Jean Sauvion, a fourth generation Loire winemaker. His uncle Jean-Ernest owned and ran the celebrated Château du Cléray in Muscadet, where Pierre-Jean is head winemaker today. Having studied at the University of Bordeaux’s renowned oenology department and worked in Australia and California, he is the epitome of the modern, outward looking French winemaker. That approach shines through in the contemporary style of his wines. He has made La Folie thoroughly appetising, and food friendly too, sourcing grapes from trusted friends in Touraine, Pays Nantais and Haut Poitou to strike a balance of complexity, freshness and ripe fruit. Enjoy solo or with seafood or butternut squash and feta risotto.
