La Folie de Pierre Chardonnay 2016

Vin de France

Think of wines of the Loire and you probably think Sauvignon Blanc but there’s so much more to this classic region. Chardonnay is made here in a style that reflects a cool climate and chalk rich soils, hence La Folie’s brilliant citrus, melon fruit.

La Folie de Pierre is the creation of Pierre-Jean Sauvion, a fourth generation Loire winemaker. His uncle Jean-Ernest owned and ran the celebrated Château du Cléray in Muscadet, where Pierre-Jean remains head winemaker today. Having studied at the University of Bordeaux’s renowned oenology department and worked in Australia and California, he is the epitome of the modern, outward looking French winemaker, whose approach shines through in the contemporary style of his wines. He has made La Folie thoroughly appetising, and food friendly too, sourcing grapes from trusted friends in Touraine, Pays Nantais and Haut Poitou to strike a balance of complexity, freshness and ripe fruit. Enjoy solo or with seafood or squash and goat’s cheese salad.
