You may have tried late harvest or noble rotted Riesling before, but fortified? Koonowla is a renowned property in the beautiful Clare wine region of South Australia, and where this innovative wine was conceived. Vines have been grown at Koonowla near the town of Auburn since 1894. A disastrous fire in the 1920s saw the owners focus on sheep and cattle, before many of the old vineyards were re-established in earnest in the 1980s. Employing multi award winning winemakers David O’Leary and Nick Walker, owner Andrew Michael has brought Koonowla wines back to great renown. Made from top quality Riesling grapes, fortified with brandy spirit and aged in old oak casks, this is a rich, creamy, highly aromatic treat on its own or with fruit cake.
