Royalty of Europe were praising the sweet wines from this Constantia estate over 200 years ago. More recently, in 2012, the estate was revitalised after the arrival on the board of some heavyweight names of Cru Classé Bordeaux. Klein Constantia today boasts 146 hectares of prime vineyard on the lower slopes of Constantiaberg, with superb views across the valley and False Bay. Indeed, the estate’s vines are a mere 10 km inland, and so benefit from cooling ocean breezes. Hence you’ll find an appealing freshness and purity in their wines, as well as a real depth of flavour. Using all estate grown Cabernet and Shiraz, aged 14 months in new French oak barrels, this red has real class. Serve with roast red meats, game pie or a rich casserole.
