New Zealand continues to wow our tastebuds with the terrifically fresh, herbaceous and tropical fruit notes of their Marlborough Sauvignons. Although new wine regions good with this grape keep popping up, Marlborough remains favourite. Its abundant sunshine is tempered by cooling ocean breezes from the Pacific to produce healthy, ripe grapes, while very diverse soils – from stony gravel to clay and deep alluvium – in this former river flood plain, produce some diversity in style. Pale Clouds has a refreshing bite of Granny Smith apples, with a herbaceous note and more tropical hints of guava and mango. Pure delight as a glass on its own, yet well suited to enjoy alongside grilled fish dishes, prawns with a spicy salsa or exciting salads.
